Canadian checkers are not played everywhere in Canada, but mainly in Quebec. The Association Quebecoise de Jeu de Dames, in Montréal can help you to find all information you need about Canadian game and International game. Its adress : Association Quebecoise de Jeu de dames 4545 avenue Pierre de Coubertin, C.P. 1000, succursale M Montréal (Quebec) H1V 3R2 (Phone number : (514) 252-3032) The great champions : I cannot mention all the great players, but the greatest one was probably Marcel Deslauriers (1905-1988), a genius on both 100 squares and 144 squares games. Raoul Dagenais, Fernand Guertin, Fernand Boisjoly, Adrian Chaput have been among the best ones too for this game. Maxime Kouame is a modern champion, but he left Canada some years ago and lives now in Paris, where he cannot play this type of game (and where he is a champion in International game). Fernand Berger and his brothers are among the best ones, and Fernand uses to write in Recréation-Quebec some lines about Canadian checkers. Few books have been written about this game, but I must mention Raoul Boudreau's book, which is the only one I found in shops, in France. I must also say that a 12x12 board is used in Sri Lanka. If you want more information, the best I can do for you is to send you to the few links I have selected about Canadian checkers : |
