TURKISH 8x8 CHECKERS
|

---|---|---|---|
|
Turkish 8x8 checkers are mainly played .... in Turkey.
The rules This game is very different from all other checkers variants in the world. The first big difference is in the starting position :
Double corner is on the right of each player and white side begins. Moves of the men The men can
move one square forward on the file, or diagonally
forward, or sideward on the rank. They become king when they
reach the last line. Moves of the kings The kings
can move at any distance on an open line in any direction
(vertical, horizontal, diagonal). Captures Maximum captures are compulsory. That means that if you can capture 2 pieces with a piece (man or king), and 3 with another one, you must choose the 3 pieces capture. Each captured piece is removed from the board before the captor continues jumping ; its removal may therefore open up additional captures previously impossible. Capture by a man The man
captures in any of the same five directions that it can
go; and it must continue jumping so long as possible. Capture by a king A king captures in any direction (like it moves), by jumping to the adjacent vacant square beyond an adverse piece, any distance away. Who wins, who loses ? The loser is the one who cannot move any more (no piece or all pieces blocked). The winner is his opponent, of course. There may be draw if : -opponents agree for a draw - the same position is encountered 3 times. |
